5 conditioning exercises for basketball players
Basketball is a sport that requires good conditioning. The best basketball players don’t just have a great shot and a good dribble, they also have good endurance to play an entire game. If you feel you get tired too quickly during games, it’s time to work on your conditioning. In this blog, we have 5 different exercises you can do to work on your conditioning.
Basic exercise
Run from sideline to sideline for one minute and keep track of how many times you cross the court, then rest for one minute. If, for example, you crossed 12 times, you can set yourself the goal of reaching 13 next time, so you always have the motivation to break your record.
Half-court sprint
Start at the baseline, sprint to the half-court line and return to the baseline. Repeat 5 times. Can’t do it the first time? Try 3 times, then 4 times the next time, until you can sprint back and forth 5 times.
Full-court lay-up
Start at the baseline, dribble to the opposite basket and make a right-handed lay-up. Then dribble to the opposite basket and make a left-handed lay-up. Repeat this for two minutes. Can’t do it the first time? Then try one minute and build it up slowly.
Jumping rope
Jumping rope is a great basketball exercise because it works both your lungs and your legs. You can find lots of different jump rope exercises, such as one-foot jumps, hopping, jumping from left to right and more. You can jump rope for a set time or until you reach a certain number of jumps.
Training with a teammate
If you have a teammate who also wants to be in good shape, this is a fun exercise you can do together. You and your partner can take turns sprinting the length of the court and back. While you’re running, your partner can rest. When you’re done, your partner can start, so you push each other to go as fast as possible.
