History
Spalding Basketball had been making basketballs for the NBA for more than 30 years, but the new cooperation with Wilson comes as a blow to Spalding, which has been making basketballs exclusively for the NBA since 1983. "This partnership with Wilson basketball takes us back to our roots as we make plans for the future," said Salvatore LaRocca, the NBA’s president of global partnerships, in a statement. "We were partners for 37 seasons, beginning when Wilson produced the first official NBA basketballs in 1946, and we look forward to growing the game of basketball together." Unfortunately, the financial terms of the NBA’s partnership with Wilson have not yet been disclosed. "Our commitment to growing the game of basketball on the world stage is at the core of Wilson and our new partnership with the NBA," said Kevin Murphy, general manager of Wilson’s basketball division, in a statement. "Our passion for this game and the league runs incredibly deep, as does our history with it. And as we begin this new chapter in the game, our focus and energy will be on supporting the league and the players, coaches and fans with the most advanced basketballs possible."

75th season
The contract between the NBA and Spalding expires after next season. After that, for its 75th season, the NBA will once again team up with Wilson as its ball supplier. Wilson will replace Spalding not only in the NBA, but also in the WNBA and the G League. Spalding had supplied the NBA ball since 1983. Before that, Wilson was the partner of the North American basketball league for 37 years. The players will have a say in the new ball, which must meet the same requirements as the trusted Spalding balls. Wilson has also been the supplier of the NCAA, the American college league, for years. You could say this is the comeback of the century for Wilson.
