3x3 Basketball, everything you need to know.

The basketball season is coming and while spring is still a bit bleak in the Netherlands, we are preparing for better days with a sport that is gaining more and more attention: 3x3 basketball. Officially recognized and popularized by FIBA, this fast-paced, dynamic game is not only an exciting twist on traditional basketball but also a great way to master your basketball skills during the summer break from regular 5x5 indoor basketball.

What is 3x3 Basketball?

3x3 basketball is a faster, shorter form of basketball that, as the name suggests, is played by two teams of three players each. The game takes place on a half court with only one basket, which allows for fast action and continuous movement.

Core Rules of 3x3 Basketball

Playing field and ball:

The matches are played on a field of 15m by 11m, with a basket and a 2-point line instead of the traditional 3-point line. The official ball has the weight of a men's ball and the size of a women's ball.

Duration:

An official match lasts 10 minutes or until a team reaches 21 points.

Shot clock:

Teams have only 12 seconds per attack, which makes the game fast and exciting.

Points:

Scores within the 2-point line earn 1 point, outside 2 points.

Fouls:

There are no personal fouls, only team fouls.

Dynamics of the Game

In 3x3 basketball, there is no break after each score. The game continues immediately with the other team having to dribble or pass the ball from behind the two-point line. This rule adds to the fast-paced, dynamic nature of the game and makes it a spectacular viewing experience.
