Rigorer AR2 Basketball Shoe Snake Eyes Black
The AR2 is Austin Reaves’ second signature shoe with Rigorer. This Snake Eyes colorway is black from top to bottom, with a scale texture woven into the upper. In the photo you can see that the side isn’t flat: the pattern catches the light where the texture rises.
What do you only see when you turn it?
On the heel counter sits a snake-eye graphic that changes color with the angle you look at it from. Straight from the front it’s almost invisible; tilt the shoe and purple flashes through it. Everything else stays black, right down to the laces and the rubber underneath.
How does the cushioning feel on a landing?
The midsole has Showtime Foam, Rigorer’s foam based on supercritical ETPU. That material springs back instead of bottoming out. When you come down after a rebound, the impact is absorbed and you get some of that energy back on your next push-off. You also stay low to the floor, because this is a low-top shoe.
Can you take it to the outdoor court?
Under the sole is rubber with a wavy herringbone pattern. Rigorer says that tread is designed for the lacquered indoor floor and for outdoor concrete. That isn’t a given for basketball shoes: many models wear their tread down outdoors within a few months. If you play on the local court, there’s no need to keep these off it.
What does that plate under your midfoot do?
A stiff plastic plate runs through the sole between your heel and your forefoot. It keeps the shoe from twisting when you suddenly shift your weight onto the side during a crossover. You notice it on sharp changes of direction: the sole doesn’t twist with the movement, so your push-off goes into the floor.
Which player is this a good choice for?
A good fit if you change direction a lot and want to stay close to the floor, so guards and wings who play at speed. If you’re looking for a high collar around your ankle because you’ve sprained it more than once, this isn’t your model. Indoors it also works for korfball, handball and volleyball: same floor, same movements. It’s available in sizes 40 through 46; check Rigorer’s size guide if you’re unsure.
Joar Beurskens, senior sales associate: tilt it under the lamp here and purple flashes through the snake eyes on the heel, and only then do you see that the black isn't flat. If you play in a uniform that changes color every season, this is the easiest shoe we have in the AR2 range.
Players who want everything black: laces, sole and upper are all the same color here.
Handy if your club uniform changes color and your shoe has to go with everything.
For guards who make a lot of crossovers and want their foot locked in tight.
Also if you head straight on to school or work after practice.
If you want more support around your ankle because you've sprained it before, choose a high-top model or add an ankle brace.
If you're looking for a shoe that stands out on the court instead, check out Reaves' Showtime or Year of the Dragon.
With a wide foot, the rigid sidewall may pinch; come try it on first or choose a model with a roomier last.
Check your size in the Rigorer size guide; it runs from EU 39 to 49.5.
Of this black version we only have 40 through 46 here, half sizes included.
The woven upper gives a little, the rigid sidewall underneath does not.
Width: Regular / Narrow
Textiel • Rubber • Showtime Foam Tech • TPU (volledige anti-torsieplaat)
Dust barely shows on this black, but you will see fingerprints on the glossy sidewall; wipe them off with a dry microfiber cloth.
Let mud dry first and then brush it out of the weave.
