Rains Lohja Insulated Bomber Jacket Bark
Bark is the name Rains gives this brown: dark, warm and a shade that leans toward tree bark. It's a bomber with a hood, a two-way zipper you can also open from the bottom, and elastic ribbing at the cuffs and waist. The outer layer is Rains' smooth PU, here with double-welded seams.
How warm is light insulation?
Under the outer layer sits a nylon lining with a thin fill. It's not a winter coat for minus ten degrees, but for fall and most of the winter it's enough, especially with a sweater underneath. The hood is lined too, and you pull the drawcords tight when the wind turns. For this jacket Rains quotes the same figure as for its rain jackets: a 5,000 mm water column, and windproof.
Oversized, so how does it fit?
Rains itself describes the Lohja as oversized. In the photo you can see that in the wide shoulders and roomy sleeves, while the elastic at the waist still holds it all together. There's room for a hoodie underneath. Sizes S, M and L are in stock; check the Rains size guide before you order.
Where do you keep your things?
Two welt pockets at hip height, a zippered inside pocket and a small pocket on the sleeve. You only appreciate that sleeve pocket when you need your debit card fast. The jacket weighs 730 grams, so you do feel it when you stuff it into your bag.
What do you wear Bark with?
Brown looks understated with black, cream and olive and makes an outfit a little less stark than black does. In the photo it's worn over light cargo pants, and that split of dark on top and light below works well with a roomy cut.
How do you keep it looking good?
Follow the care label in the jacket: for Rains' PU jackets that means thirty degrees, no dry cleaning, no ironing and no tumble dryer. The brand advises against fabric softener and water-repellent additives. Rains started in 2012 in Aarhus and offers a two-year warranty on its jackets.
We call this the jacket for September through March, as long as you wear a sweater underneath when it freezes. The little pocket on the sleeve sounds like a detail, until you have to fish your bank card out of your inside pocket without gloves.
Do you bike in the fall and want to stay warm and dry
Do you like to wear oversized and want a jacket with a hood
Are you looking for one jacket for the fall and most of the winter
Do you want your bank card quickly at hand
If it drops to minus ten degrees, this light insulation is too thin; choose a winter jacket with a thicker fill.
If you want a sleek silhouette, the Lohja runs oversized; look at a fitted model instead.
Stick to your usual size: Rains itself describes the Lohja as oversized.
A hoodie fits underneath, and the elastic at the waist keeps everything together.
Sizes S, M and L are in stock; check the Rains size guide.
100% Polyester
Close the zippers before washing and turn the jacket inside out.
Thirty degrees in the machine, then hang to dry on a wide hanger. No tumble dryer, no steaming.
