Puma All-Pro NITRO 2 Basketball Shoe Black/Mint
Two kinds of foam, and what you notice
Under your foot, two kinds of foam sit one inside the other. In the middle a soft layer that compresses when you land, and around it a firmer rim that keeps your foot from rolling sideways off the sole. Puma calls the whole thing NITRO SQD. What you notice: a landing feels soft, and on a side step you still stay on the sole.
Grip on the indoor court
The outsole is rubber with a finely drawn tread. Puma calls that rubber PUMAGRIP and puts it under its entire basketball line. The pattern runs across the full footprint, including along the edge of the ball of your foot, and that is exactly where you push off on a sudden stop.
A low shoe: what does that mean for your ankle?
This one sits low around the ankle. That lets your ankle move freely through the motion, which is nice if you turn and cut a lot. The flip side is that you get no ankle support from the shoe itself. If you roll your ankle often, a brace or a higher-cut model is a better idea.
The lace lock over your instep
Across the forefoot runs a cord that is pulled tight by the laces and continues down into the sole. When you tighten the laces, your forefoot is locked in place in the shoe instead of just pressed down. That makes a difference the moment you plant your foot sideways.
Also for korfball, handball and volleyball
A basketball shoe is simply an indoor shoe too. This sole is made for stopping and turning on a varnished floor, and that is no different in korfball, handball and volleyball. If you play several indoor sports, you don't need to buy two pairs.
Black with a stripe that changes color
The shoe is completely black, right down to the sole. The Puma stripe on the side runs from pink through yellow to mint green and changes color with the angle you look at it from. On the back there is also a small pink accent on the heel.
Wide foot? And which size?
We have this one listed as normal to wide in fit. Check the size guide for your correct size: brands really differ from one another and we don't gamble on that. In Den Bosch you can simply try it on, from 38.5 through 48.
We recommend this one if you mostly play indoors and move sideways a lot: that firmer rim around the soft core is exactly where you’ll notice it. For the outdoor court, you’re better off with a shoe with a coarser tread.
Do you make a lot of side steps and quick changes? The firmer foam rim keeps your foot on the sole.
Do you play indoors on a varnished floor? That’s what this fine tread was designed for.
Want a shoe you barely feel on your foot? The upper is thin and light.
Also on the volleyball or korfball court? The same stops and turns come back there.
Do you train on concrete every week? On asphalt this fine tread wears down fast; choose an outdoor shoe instead.
Want lockdown around your ankle after an injury? A mid-top or high-top model makes more sense then.
Looking for as much foam as possible under your heel? The Nike LeBron XXIII goes further in that.
Check Puma’s size chart for your correct size.
We list this shoe as having a regular to wide last.
Sizes run from 38.5 to 48, with half sizes.
You can try it on at Hinthamerstraat in Den Bosch.
Width: Regular / Wide
After practice, quickly wipe the sole over a clean mat, because dust costs you grip.
Remove stains on the mesh with a damp cloth and lukewarm water.
Not in the washing machine.
