Chicago White Sox was founded in 1900 by Charles Comiskey, a former baseball player and extremely wealthy businessman. Until 1903, the club was officially called the Chicago White Stockings, but after sports journalists from the Chicago Tribune began shortening the name to White Sox, the club decided to adopt this name in 1904. The club has played in the Central Division of the American League since 1994. Due to many relocations and name changes, there are only seven baseball clubs that have shared the same place and name from the very beginning of Major League Baseball: Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, the Oakland Athletics, and Chicago White sox. These clubs are part of the cultural heritage of the American sports world.
