It’s a construction in which the laces don’t just pull the upper closed but also tighten a band under your instep. You notice it right away when you lace up: the shoe holds your foot higher up than you’re used to with a sneaker. That’s a different story from the Omni 9: here the cushioning is embedded in a lighter sole, so the shoe feels cushioned without getting clunky.
